About LHA

Lao Handicraft Association is a non profit organization established in 1998 under the supervision of Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) and Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) with the aim to represent all handicraft artisans in Laos.

Our goals

The main goals of Lao Handicrafts Association are to preserve and promote traditional Lao handicrafts and to help connect local artisans and handicrafts makers with each other and with international markets.

Preserve

To preserve the Lao handicraft arts to become bargaining strength of business, management, promotion and develop local entrepreneurs who are both members and non-member of LHA in terms of both quantity and quality for sustainable growth to meet increasing demand of the society and markets. To gather and preserve the handicraft so as to made it an economic strength.

Promote

To unify and promote Lao Handicraft identity as well as to modernize cultural arts of all Lao ethnic groups in a sustainable manner. To promote and develop in quality and number the business of the members, the producer and the trade of handicraft in general. To promote and encourage Lao Handicraft artisans to produce more Lao handicraft products for the local markets and export.

Connect

To help LHA members connect with each other and other relevant organizations in the field of handicrafts, both locally and abroad.  To cooperate with other associations from ASEAN and the rest of the world in order to exchange experiences and marketing strategies.

Sector Spotlight
Bamboo and Rattan Handicrafts

WWF’s sustainable rattan project operates in Bolikhamxay, Xekong and Saravan provinces. The objective of the project in Laos – which also runs in Cambodia and Vietnam – is to secure credible forest certification, establish a more sustainable rattan production supply chain, and develop sustainable financing for small and medium sized enterprises to invest in it.

Lao Handicraft Association works to support handicrafts artisans in these seven broad crafts sectors. In addition to supporting and promoting these sectors, LHA works with many local and  international organizations in the fields of handicrafts, cultural research and preservation, sustainable development and tourism to further its goals of preserving and promoting traditional Lao handicrafts.
